Dog Waste Bags - How To Properly Use Them

Almost anyone that owns a dog probably has or should have used a dog waste bag at one time or another.  Just using these bags is definitely a step in the right direction.  However, improper use of your dog waste bag, can completely negate its effectiveness.

When you're out with your dog at the park, on a walk or anywhere, there are several reasons to  use dog waste bags.  The main reasons are to keep the environment clean because dog waste spreads bacteria and disease.  Another reason is that proper usage also will help keep your hands clean too!

In case you've never used dog waste bags before, luckily they are very simple to use.  Just take the dog waste bag and insert your hand inside.  Then reach down and pick up the dog waste using the outside of the bag covering your hand.  Once you have picked up the waste, gently and slide the bag over your hand and over the waste with your hand continuing to hold the waste.  This technique will safely contain the waste inside of the dog waste bag while bringing the outside of the bag around the waste.  

Your next step will be to tie a strong knot at the top of the dog waste bag.  A good knot will ensure that the dog waste will not spread outside of the bag and that everything is contained within the dog waste bag.  If you have an extra bag, it is always good to double bag the waste to cut down on odor as well.

Once you have completely picked up your dog's waste and disposed of it in a knotted dog waste bag, you should dispose of it in the nearest trash receptacle.  Using this easy to follow techinque will help keep the environment clean and allow you to be a responsible dog owner.
